Kahikatea with buttresses

This afternoon's walk was interrupted three times to try and get a good photo of a tui. The light was wrong and each time the Tui were behind branches.

I have seen this Kahikatea; also known as the white pine. It was often colloquially called swamp pine as they grow well even in very wet conditions. The pool around the base of this one is the result of heavy rain during the past week. The buttresses show evidence of immersion in the past as well. Two or three weeks ago there was no significant pool to be seen.
