Sensory Overload, Day 2
A trip by bus this morning down 7th Avenue, through Chelsea and Greenwich Village to the Financial quarter and Battery Park. On the way we passed the Village Vanguard jazz club, famous for many, many classic jazz concerts over the years. This is one of them - Michel Petrucciani. I was lucky enough to see Michel play at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh a few years ago; he was amazingly talented and died tragically young.
We had a short walk through Battery Park, but the heat and humidity were stifling, so we took a boat trip out into the harbour where we had fantastic views of the new Liberty Tower (built on the site of the Twin Towers), the Statue of Liberty, and the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.
In the evening we took a ride to the 70th floor of the Rockerfeller Centre for a view of Manhattan at night. It was truly gobsmacking.
Posted on Sunday 2nd June. Still catching up...
