Sensory Overload, Day One

New York, I have noticed, has a distinct aroma, similar to that of grilling steak. I can only assume that this is due to the plenitude of hot food vendors on every street. They are many and varied and tempting.

Today began with breakfast in a diner on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street - blueberry pancakes with syrup, and coffee. We could have had more but we were a bit overwhelmed by the choice and the process for ordering and payment; NYC is like that, it takes a bit of getting used to.

Just before reaching the diner we realised that we were walking past the Empire State building; it's so tall that you can only appreciate the size from a distance. So we walked a distance and had a look - it is beautiful. And here it is, above. And it is above just about everything. Ha ha.

And on we went up 5th to Central Park, all the time on the look-out for Monica and Chandler and the like but to no avail. Walking, people-watching, eating and drinking (I'm getting bigger by the minute), back down 7th Avenue, through Times Square, into Macy's, out of Macy's. Hotel. Rest. Out to eat - burger, salad, beer, stuffed, hotel. Sleep. More tomorrow.

Posting this on Saturday 1st June as my pc kept telling me that the internet connection in New York was insecure and unsafe.
