Who would have thought it?

A day of two halves. I woke to lashing rain, wind and a seascape obliterated by cloud. By 9am the rain had eased enough to make me think it worthwhile to take the bus to Kirkwall. The alternative was cabin fever. It was a soggy journey with dramatic spray from passing cars but in the town itself the rain had more or less stopped enabling me to have a coffee and do some food shopping in the dry even though the cloud was still hanging low over the roof tops.
Fast forward 4 hours and the sun appeared in Stromness in time for today’s sailing race to start. That’s the good thing about Orkney weather, it never stays the same for long- it can change at the drop of a hat.

With the slip now clear of boats the Selkies are swimming at 5pm.
