Hoofing it
I think it’s maybe rained a bit since we came in at teatime, but despite some interesting cumulus piling up around Leith we’ve had a good deal of sunshine. The day began early with a pre-breakfast visit to a medical centre where I had three stitches removed from a small hole in my arm - a positively jolly occasion lasting perhaps ten minutes altogether. Then home for breakfast and a decent shower…
Three hours later we were off again, meeting a friend for lunch in Valvona and Crolla. I’ve not seen “American Marjorie” since 1983, when she and I shared a platformback of a lorry at Scottish CND’s big Easter rally which that year targeted the Holy Loch USN Site One Base. Two intensive hours of a mixture of political chat and catch up ensued, along with some splendid lunch. We ended our visit with some shopping - cheese, oil…
And then, madly, we walked back to Newhaven. My blip shows the start of our trek, looking all the way down the wonderfully clear-looking tram route that is Leith Walk today. Our route took us through the back streets of Leith, where interestingly we came across more than one example of enraged and vocal young women giving vent to their fury.
We’re not furious: we’re away out again soon to have dinner at Tapa - another ritual of our sojourns here…
