Aptera and Chania

We spent the morning at Aptera, the archaeological site there is impressive. The remains include an amphitheatre, a system of cisterns and roman baths, a villa and a fortress. They believe there is more to be uncovered, although how they'd dig it up in that heat is beyond me. The ground is baked.

In the evening we took a taxi to Chania, we walked round the old town and had a meal. It was really very busy though and although we enjoyed it, we were glad to be back in the peace and quiet.

Having said that, Vamos wasn't that quiet. The loudest cicadas I've ever heard all day and then a scoot owl all night. Not irritating though, except the cicadas did occasionally hit a painful pitch!
