Thistle Down

Silver Bells

I went so far away,
To buy a silver bell.
One that sweetly rang,
So I could tell.

One that sounded softly,
Over the lea.
And bring my true love,
Back to me.

One that would call,
The wooly sheep at dawn.
And hurry my true love,
On and on.

One from the belfrey,
With its turtle-dove.
That rang through the day,
And spoke of my love.

A bell that would tinkle,
And sound out for tea.
And keep my love coming,
Right back to me.
