(185) Larpool Viaduct
Also known as the Esk Valley viaduct, the structure was built to carry the single track railway line between Scarborough and Whitby. The viaduct opened in 1885 but rail services on the line ended in March 1965 as a result of the Beeching Report. The former rail line is now a walking/cycling route, known as the Cinder Track. In the photograph the River Esk can be seen winding its way towards the sea at Whitby harbour.
