Back on the mainland!

We did get dinner last night but took it in turns so that one person kept the table while the other got food!
Soon retired to our cabin after sailing past Fair Isle as the sun was going down. Great sky, it was fine all the way. 
I was awake as we went into Kirkwall Harbour, Orkney at 11.00 pm but was unaware of leaving less than and hour later.
It was rumoured that 200 got on at Kirkwall this morning, the Orkney team? but there was no evidence of that and I don’t know where they would put them!
We didn’t try breakfast but disembarked in Aberdeen at 7.00am and was sat on the harbour at Stonehaven for before 8.00 having a picnic. A glorious morning and when the Old Pier cafe opened at 8.00am she brought us out two teas. I treat myself to a warm croissant.

We then headed up the road to Dunnottar Castle which we missed on our last visit here. It opened at 9.00 and we were there just after.
Not just the familiar silhouetted castle on the cliff top (extra) but lots to see inside but you have to right down almost to beach level to climb back up again, extra 2. Lots of nationalities there. 
It’s main claim to fame is hiding the Honours of Scotland - Scottish Crown Jewels  (seen yesterday for UK folks being presented to King Charles III in Edinburgh). They held off Cromwell troops for 8 months in 1651/52  ( mainly due to bad weather and Cromwell not being able to get his guns in place.) When they surrendred they had managed to squirrel the honours out of the castle. Without this happening they wouldn’t have had anything to present the king with yesterday!
Also yesterday dolphins had been seen in the bay, quite a regular occurrence, but not today. Slightly relieved as my last camera battery expired as we arrived so phone pics would have been frustratingly poor for dolphins in the bay!

Back at the top we had a coffee before hitting the road.

Chris had commented it wouldn’t take us long to get to our last night just south of Edinburgh and while watching Paul Murton following the River Esk on the cabin TV last night he also said he’d never been to Rosslyn Chapel. I’ve been a few years ago with my Edinburgh friend so we headed there.

So much busier than that last time we went, there was a group having a talk as we arrived and we joined in the last few minutes. Nothing like that last time and NO photography allowed! Before we left there was a Spanish talk being given!

We’ve had a good day but very tired after an early start. We are now at our very last place of the holiday in East Lothian at a place we stayed last year.
Looking forward to dinner shortly without any queues!
