Appearing In The Lounge, Tonight Only...!
We've begun the process of looking for a place to live, starting with an independent senior living development, even though we knew it would most likely be out of our price range. My Blip is the sign that greeted us (made us smile). These are lovely facilities with a lot of amenities for people who are more likely to enjoy social activities than Laurie and I would. We both prefer to find our own entertainment/interests so structured group events are not our favorite.
It's a family decision for us to get an apartment together, so that's what we're looking for. Laurie and I have lived together before. She spent nearly a year with me when my husband was sick and was a great help. We always have a lot of fun together and our likes/dislikes are so similar that we have few if any areas of conflict.
Today, we scheduled a tour and were invited to join the residents for a 4th of July lunch. Everyone was very friendly and quick to start a conversation or tell us something about themselves. We got to see different apartments and cottages and some of the amenities like a game room, a library, a small theater where various professionals or professors from nearby Indiana University come to give presentations, a pool room, a beauty/barber shop and an exercise room. The lunch was amazing, prepared by a couple chefs and overseen by efficient, lovely waitpersons.
It's a beautiful place in the middle of a forest with a million trees, birds and squirrels. We suspected before we got there that the price would be prohibitive and we were right. We looked at a really, really nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage with a deck that was practically in the woods -- exactly where we would love to live. (See Extras) Unfortunately, the monthly rent was $4,300 so definitely out of our budget. We probably never should have looked there because now we can't get it out of our heads!
Tonight, Rob cooked us a steak on his Ninja grill, I roasted potatoes and asparagus and we perused the web and brochures for more places to go see. There are a lot of places in the area so we'll continue our search and try to look only at places we can afford!
