Welly Planters

There is a holiday house owner in Stromness who embellishes the entrances to her properties with small wellington boots planted with flowers. This blip indicates how dry the plantings have found it lately but more likely, the landlady is out of the country at the moment.
The weather was very changeable today- one moment sunny and then suddenly a shower rushed in  and whole atmosphere was different .
There was a welcome period of  sunny weather this  afternoon but I got hooked into watching the Tour de France instead of taking advantage of the sun.  How amazing that the first stage of the Tour  was won by the two Yorkshire Yate brothers.

Tonight I dined out with my Edinburgh friends at the Smithfield Hotel in Dounby: my choice and it proved a winner. It was a jovial meal punctuated by deep discussions on the meaning of life and a debate about the definition of Humanism. This all accompanied by intensive swigging of gin and wine and the eating of a wonderful meal.
