Life in a Northern Town

Down Tor

We embarked on a long geocaching hike, which didn’t turn out quite as expected due to there being virtually no phone signal but we scrambled to a couple. The main Blip is a stone circle on the way to Down Tor, with a couple more pics from the top of the Tor in extras. It was a stunning day and the presence of an ice-cream van in the car park was the cherry on the cake.

Back to my mum’s for a Zoom call with my cousin in the US. Memory is a funny thing. My mum was able to tell my cousin an amazingly detailed account of the day her mother (my Mum’s sister) left Plymouth to emigrate to the US with her new husband after the war. My mum could remember her sister waving from the back of a taxi - she’d have been 20 and was headed to what must’ve seemed like the other side of the world. She didn’t return home for over ten years. Yet my mum can’t remember the start of the sentence by the time she gets to the end. I think the Zoom call was a real boost for her.

Back to the house for a swim in the sea - the sea was calmer but cooler this evening - half an hour was enough.
