Puffling!
Wednesday 28th June 2023
Like last year, we had booked to go to Skomer today. Unfortunately, after all these weeks of dry weather, it decided to be really misty and wet today ... and the forecast for tomorrow is sun! However, we had booked and off we went.
Visibility wasn't good and, when we arrived, it was very fine but continuous rain, which made us very wet. We did a little photography as we walked towards The Wick. When we arrived there it was driving rain coming in from the sea, which made photographing the puffins coming in from the sea impossible. We did, however, see a puffling come out of its burrow for a moment. Sue captured it well.
We returned to the other side of the island for more photos but it really wasn't pleasant. We made our way to the farm in the centre of the island to find a bit of shelter to have lunch. Thankfully it did then stop raining and we returned to The Wick, where I saw two more pufflings in their burrows, this is one of them. What a wonderful sight that made the day worthwhile. I also managed to get some very sharp pictures there.
Despite the weather being a big disappointment and limiting our photography, we had a great day (once we dried off) and have come away with some good pictures.
