St Govan's Chapel
Monday 26th June 2023
Great weather today and we wanted to make the most of when the MOD would let us on their land. We started with an hour in Pembroke to photograph the castle. We then moved on to Stackpole Quay and had a walk up on the top of the cliff over to Broadhaven beach.
We moved on to our main aim, which was St Govan's chapel and had our lunch on the top of the cliff, watching a seagull and her babies. The MOD wouldn't let us there at all last year. We walked out to St Govan's head, enjoying watching the birds, then returned and went down to the chapel in the rocks - the inside of the chapel is in extras.
After an ice cream we moved on to the car park above Broadhaven Beach but, although they were singing, we couldn't see any birds. Whilst we were there the wind got up and it started to go cold and grey. We had intended waiting until the MOD had finished their exercise but we were both tired and decided to give our next destination a miss as the light was dull. However, five mins after setting off home the sun came out and we changed our minds. We returned and drove to the MOD property. We had to wait half an hour for the road to be opened and then we made our way to the coast, passing the tanks returning to base. We were so pleased we did as we enjoyed another hour and a half seeing the Green Bridge (extra) Elegug Stack rocks, the Caldron and watching a colony of Guillemots.
We were late home and tired but it was a fabulous day.
