Grey Box Day
A big day today, starting out with an early Blip-meet with BenCran57 from Canberra at the wonderful Intercontinental Hotel. We were fortunate to get tickets to hear him sing tonight in Beethoven's 9th Symphony concert at the Festival Theatre.
The event is to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the theatre. It has been a dreadful day with quite heavy rain almost all day.
Next stop for us was Belair National Pack where they were holding a special event for World Environment Day, a perfect subject for my blip, showing our box of 20 plants for only $20. They sold out all 600 boxes of plants and all were pre-ordered! All plants were grown by volunteers and each box had an assortment of 20 native under-story plants. This was a fantastic deal.
See in large.
Then it was across the park to the meeting room for the Friends of Belair National Park meeting to hear guest speaker Prof. Stefan Simons from UK. He spoke on "Badgers" and his work for biodiversity in England.
Then it was back home to do my workout in the gym, being a rest day for me from my indoor rowing training, before going to hear BenCran sing tonight.
The reason for Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) Woodlands is to provide important natural habitats for many native animals such as birds, possums, reptiles, and butterflies. Traditionally they extended over most of the Adelaide Plains.
However since clearance of the land, its distribution has been reduced from over 20,000 hectares to under 2,000 hectares with most of the remaining woodland threatened by weeds, introduced animals, urbanisation and inappropriate recreational activities.
