Pork Knuckle

Pork knuckle ("very slowly roasted"), braised sauerkraut, polenta, green chili, sour pickles, and pickled red chili. Drink: house beer, and tuica (plum brandy - not pictured) for dessert.

After a fun day exploring the city, we had an amazing dinner at Caru' cu Bare in Bucharest. The name of the restaurant is literally "The Beer Wagon." It is a ridiculously charming restaurant dating from the 19th century with over-the-top architecture and decor. The food is traditionally Romanian and excellent. Being pork knuckle noobs, we requested it off the bone. It was so tender that we no longer think the bone would have posed an issue. Everything was astonishingly good. Two days in and we already have a formidable meal to beat for the trip.
