Day 176/23. One escaped and I missed it...

I've been waiting for dragonflies to start to emerge from our little pond. Today, one did, and I missed its transition.
This is the dried outer casing of a young dragonfly. It is what the insect leaves behind when it ends the aquatic stage of its life cycle and turns into the colourful aerial hunter we see during the summer months.
