Bearsted and Thurnham Carnival

How long have I lived in Bearsted? How many times has the carnival passed near our house on its way to the village green? Well over 20 years.

This year we went to watch it go by. Lots of local groups and organisations participating; cubs, dance groups, playgroups and so on and also the Bearsted Plastic Fish.

Peddled here by Duncan with his wife escorting him. Of course, the idea is to thrown your plastic waste in the gaping fish mouth - just what people were doing at the Fayre.

The intrepid Duncan came a cropper just after this shot, I called out his name and he wobbled leading the bike to topple over to one side. Fortunately, he wasn’t hurt and there was no damage to the fish. Duncan was riding his cargo bike - we often see him around the village on it.

The Fayre was packed. We bumped into quite a few people, spending more time talking to former neighbours and the Bearsted CAN stall than we did looking at the other stalls.

BearstedCAN (Climate Action Network) is doing what it says on the can. Networking people and organisations to promote action against climate change. Part of the network is the Plastic Free Bearsted initiative, which is the same organisation as I am involved in in Tenterden.
