Queen Elizabeth Forest to Cocking

It's been a long, hot day but we survived!  We started across the road from  Butser Hill, walking upwards through Queen Elizabeth Forest and on to Harting Down, where we stopped for lunch. Here, we had panoramic views looking North over the Harting villages,  most notably South Harting whose church has a distinctive green spire. My main blip shows the walk after lunch looking towards Beacon Hill. We went around it (to the right of my photo), and through wooded  Philliswood Down, to emerge at five tumuli called the  Devil's Jumps (see second extra). They were  carefully positioned to be aligned with the sunset at the  Summer Solstice (so we were just a day late!). We finished our walk descending into  the village of Cocking, past the large chalk boulder, installed by Andy  Goldsworthy about twenty years ago(see first extra) one in a series in his Chalk Stones  Trail.
In total, we walked some 13 miles  today, with 1830 feet of ascent and  1930 feet of descent.
