A BEAUTIFUL SCULPTURE
We felt like Old Mother and Father Hubbard today as our cupboards were bare - so decided that we needed to go and do some shopping. It’s a pleasant drive out to Royal Wootton Bassett so off we went to visit Aldi, where it took very little time to spend quite a lot of money, but we do need to eat and are trying to eat healthily.
In April of this year, we read that this beautiful “Tree of Life” sculpture, which stands 5.6 metres tall and is 4.4 metres wide was to be located on a small roundabout on Mill Lane. This forms a gateway into the new Wichelstowe community and it blends in very well, particularly as there are many trees in the streets on the estate as well as many more in the wider green space areas where residents can enjoy nature trails, play areas, 200 acres of open space and walks along the Wilts and Berks canal, a favourite haunt of ours. It was a particularly good day today with lovely blue skies and fluffy clouds, so ideal for taking a shot or two of the “Tree of Life”.
The sculpture was designed by Sculptor and designer, Sebastien Boyesen, which is made from two different types of metal with stainless steel flora and fauna, representing plants and animals indigenous to Wiltshire and often seen throughout this development, which actually has the Wilts and Berks Canal running through it. It is a globe shape, on top of a steel base, with a three-dimensional effect, and in the smaller shots you can see water voles, bees, dragonflies, not forgetting the heron, together with many other plants. We understand that there is internal lighting that creates a flow inside the globe once the sun goes down, so perhaps we need to go out there one evening and take another shot.
I did get some strange looks from people passing in their cars, but Blippers don’t worry about that sort of thing - in fact, many of us relish strange looks and they have often opened up a conversation when I have told people about Blip and then invited them to join.
Once again, I am glad I don’t suffer from this phobia:
MEGALOPHOBIA
A fear of large objects - a person with megalophobia experiences intense fear and anxiety when they think of, or are around, large objects such as large buildings, statues, animals and vehicles. They often avoid situations or places that have large objects - like sculptures!
