Sgwarnog: In the Field

Tailed

A return to sunshine and heat meant a good day for dragonflies.

Emperors, the largest of our dragonflies, were ovipositing in Red Brick Dam, and there were plenty of Broad-bodied Chasers and various damselflies zipping about. For my main image I’ve selected a Blue-tailed Damselfly. The females come in five different colour forms - I think that this one with the pinkish thorax is rufescens.

Butterfly news for the day was my first Ringlets of the summer - more or less on schedule.
