Breachacha

The wedding venue today was Breachacha beach on the Isle of Coll. It was raining in the morning but the skies gradually cleared and just as the bridal party set off across the sands from the castle the sun broke through. You may just make out the party on the left of the picture.

The humanist wedding ceremony was lovely with lots of humour and reflections from the bride and groom. We then had an hour or so in the sunshine after the ceremony sipping champagne in the sun while people chatted and greeted friends. I met some one who played in our house when he was a child, visiting his grandparents who owned the house at the time. Younger members of the party had time to play on the beach - see extra: he was supervised.

For the men it was an interesting mixture of kilts and ghillie shorts or Hawaiian or colourful shirts; flip flops; boots and sandals. The women were in a variety of outfits from trouser suits to cocktail dresses.

It was relaxed and hugely enjoyable on a perfect day.
The wedding breakfast was in the Community hall and was followed by a great band with a variety of music including some energetic ceilidh dancing. A very good cardio workout!

The wedding cake was expertly decorated - see other extra - and at midnight we all headed home. Our driver had kindly forgone the free bar - but many others had not!

On our way back to the house where we were staying we heard a number of corncrakes calling out with their “kreek” sound. Quite a day.
