Chromatic Pool
A "pool" in the Yellowstone Park geyser basin is a superheated body of water that has a channel all the way down to the magma that is deep underground.
The water in the pool is crystal clear, which appears vibrantly blue in daylight.
The cooler edges of the pool grows various thermophillic bacteria coloring the bottom on the pool edges shades of orange and yellow.
We walked for three miles along the Firehole River this afternoon, ogling one amazing geothermal feature after another, along with birds and wildflowers.
It was a magical day for us.
