Madeleines
On Sunday, during his conversation with his daughters, Gordon opened a parcel sent by them. He found a few interesting kitchen things ('random' Joanne said!) and then a strange baking tray. I immediately realised it was a Madeleine tray as I had seen Madeleines in bakeries in France. Apparently Joanne had found it in Paris last week, when they were there for the Tennis.
G was a bit wary as, although he is an ace pastry maker and likes to make biscuits, he has always avoided making cakes. I make any cakes that we need, which is not very often.
Then, by coincidence, I found in the Food Monthly section of that day's Observer a recipe for . . . Madeleines!! Once we realised that it was a batter mix not a cake mix, G was happy. He does batter - Yorkshire puddings, waffles etc.
So he made the mixture last night and cooked them this morning - they turned out perfectly and taste very, very good.
