A Beautiful Day - at LAST

LAST is in capitals, because this bronze sculpture depicts a last, a tool used in shoe-making. Northampton became the centre of British leather and shoe-making in the 1200s until the industry gradually declined in the 1960s.

As you see, the day was sunny which brought folk out and about in the town centre. There are a lot more smiles around on a day like this! I called into one of my favourite cafes and was surreptitiously sketching some of the other customers when a lady came up to me and quietly showed me her sketch book - she was doing the same thing - and then, amazingly, we spied another secret artist drawing away on another table!

Let's hope the weather LASTS for a whole weekend!
