Cheddleton Flint Mill

After my visit to Deep Hayes Country Park last night we started our walk there this morning. I'd found a circular walk of about 8 miles on the Staffordshire County Council website.

It took us along the Staffordshire Way via the Caldon Canal. We passed the Cheddleton Flint Mill. Flint was ground here for use in the pottery industry.

We then climbed out of the valley to a viewpoint at a place called Tompkin. A little more overgrown than when this walk was produced. We walked to Stanley Pool and had a quick break just as it was starting to rain a little, but not enough for waterproofs.

We headed back to the canal and finished the walk with a pint in The Hollybush Inn besides the canal. We sat watching the narrow boats as a sharp shower descended. Not a bad end to the walk.
