Setting Sail

Thankfully a cooler day today with an Orkney breeze present. Can I just have said ‘thankfully’? It really has been too hot these last few days with no wind to moderate the heat. Today is pretty much perfect.

Some of the Selkies were swimming at 10:45 this morning and I joined them with my friend Hilary who it seems did protest too much 2 days ago about getting cold. She had obviously upped her tolerance level yesterday in Rackwick on Hoy and was off to the second buoy with the best of them and without gloves or sea socks. Hat off!!

One of the ladies whose tiny premature nephew died a year ago today gave us all a white rose to cast into the sea in his memory. I thought that was a rather lovely and poignant way in which to remember him

Some of the sailing club were launching their yachts from the slip as we waited our moment of immersion and it made a welcome blip.

Hilary and I are off to eat out tonight. Meanwhile I am sitting in the garden over the wall from the sea, wearing my new sunhat and looking at a colour palette of greens and blues. This is Orkney showing off!
