Save Gillies Hill Campaign

This evening I attended a meeting of the Save Gillies Hill group where the latest and very serious threat to the hill was explained. A new company now has the quarrying rights which , if implemented, would cause severe damage to not only Gillies Hill itself but but to the environment of a much wider area. A regeneration of campaigning is now needed to try to ensure that the hill can be preserved. It is a significant area of natural importance, for both flora and fauna, but it is also of historical importance n the events of 1314 and the Battle of Bannockburn which of course will be the focus of 700 years celebration next year. It will be ironic if in that year a place of significance in the battle is at the beginning of its destruction.
I took this blip of part of the spoil heaps left by previous quarrying. The crags behind these would disappear in any new quarrying along with other large parts of the hill.
