Aquilegia or Columbine

At this time of year our garden is at its colourful best particularly with blossoms, clematis and rhododendrons. It is therefore a great source of blips on days like today when our intended walk was cut short by rain.
This flower of course is none of the above but is in fact Aquilegia , a name derived from the Latin for "eagle', the flower petals appearing to resemble an eagle's claw. Its more common name is Columbine ( from Latin for 'dove") as the inverted flowers are like five doves clustering
