Not what you would expect
There is a sign above a shop door on the way into the village which says ‘Christophe.’ It was a draper’s shop many years ago, but now has many artworks in the window. I know the old lady who lives there well and often speak about first husband who died 25 years ago. He was a salesman who travelled all over France, but also exhibited his work in Paris and elsewhere. She showed me the photocopies of all the letters and commendations he received, including a signed comment from Picasso to whom he donated a work. Sadly, he did not get one of Picasso’s works in return! One surprising thing is that, having looked at these through the window, I had not realised that they are not paintings. They are in fact felting pictures. In the shop he had access to any amount of wool which he carded himself. When he had finished a work, he sprayed it with a type of varnish to hold it all together
We had a meeting after church this morning to vote through the new statutes to comply with French law. It was very straightforward and the statutes were passed unanimously. I wrote up the minutes when I got home and circulated them, and now have complete dossiers to send on to the sub prefecture and the prefecture in Perpignan. I hope they pass muster and don’t get returned for corrections..
In the afternoon, I played some tennis, but we only managed one set before the heavens opened and we had to go home.
