An Orcadian Adventure (7)

Was up at a famous Kirkwall distillery for a tour of the manufacturing process and found myself ‘having a go’, its not that difficult but you have to toss the barley in the air to stop it sticking together as it germinates (they employ 20 guys in rotation to ensure it is all good). In the kiln house we were aware that there a couple of birds, kind of familiar but as we were concentrating on the spiel couldn’t work what they were until the guide pointed out that the swallows are recorded on their arrival and departuture. There is always a window open, just for them.
