Out and About..

again today.... no specific destination, just wander on down to the river but maybe on some different streets?

Oh, but let's wander on by the Chapelle des Carmélites first and see if, by any chance, it just might be open...(it gets to be a game, checking to see if it is open!) and, unbelievably it was!  It is always worth the wait..It is beautiful..built in the 17th century, decorated in the 18th and contains remarkable murals and paintings...It is the only building in the Carmelite convent that was not destroyed in the French Revolution. It seems to have a variety of uses these days, but we can't quite figure out how that works...My sister has visited when an opera singer was practising; today we are not sure what was happening - preparations for a photo shoot or a rehearsal for a performance?..who knows..but it was interesting (see extra) and fun to watch!

Our meanderings took us next to a church we'd not visited before - the Eglise St-Pierre-des Chartreux - that had a very interesting floor design around the altar! (see extra). Quilters will recognize it...

A pick-up lunch, a drink in a riverside cafe, a visit to the l'Espace EDF Bazacle (power station) in search of a possible art display - believe it or not, they often have one there - but they didn't...so, as it was getting too hot for us, it was time to head home, with a detour along the Canal de Brienne (extra)

It was a long walk which chalked up some steps for those of who sometimes count them, but by this time, we were pretty worn out so , step count be darned - it was time to go home, rest and watch tennis!
