A welcome visit.

I can't remember how long I have tried to get som light help from the various promising 'care for the elderly' firms - in vain. They do not have enough personnel was the answer. Yet they charge a good sum per hour.

That means that the only visits I have are the medicine shots every four weeks, a brief visit by the cleaning lady every two weeks, and an hourly visit every eight weeks by the podiatrist. I would love to have a little more company.

A good friend (she does not live here) suggested that I call the Red Cross Volunteer Friends - which I did. I introduced myself in a letter to the RC Friends' secretary. Two weeks ago they visited me, the secretary and a very nice lady who even brought me this summer's first strawberries!

We had a good chat and we went for a short walk. I am really looking forward to the next visit, two weeks from now. I am amazed that this kind of a friendly deed is free and voluntary. How can anyone just give her time without any compensation!
