David and Emily

In my old Tumblr blog are the details of the day when I first met David Callaghan. You can read that post here.

We've remained friends over the years, and most years he pops in my Blips at least once.

Just before lockdown, he met Emily, and they ended up becoming a 'bubble', and then husband and wife. Today, they finally had a ceremony in front of their friends and it was wonderful.

They held it at The Engine Works in Maryhill, which necessitated a fairly early start for me and the Minx, but we arrived in Glasgow in good time to check into our hotel and get the bus out to Maryhill, which, coincidentally, is where the Minx's mum's family come from. A little more of that in a moment.

David and Emily are both comedians, as are many of their friends, including the chap who conducted the ceremony, and there was a lot of laughter and joy in that, as well as moving vows from the bride and groom.

In the window between the service and food, the Minx hopped on a bus to go and visit her great aunt, who had a fall recently and who has been housebound.

After that there was the wonderful food, great speeches, and then a disco. I even danced!

Ultimately, I think you can tell a lot about people from their friends, and David and Emily's are a fine, friendly bunch. It was a brilliant day, and they deserved every moment of it.
