Mitey robin
I saw this rather worried-looking robin in the reserve. For a moment it seemed like we might have a casualty on our hands, but then I remembered being told that when birds like this get mites they lie on an ant hill and let the ants crawl over them, eating said mites! So I think this could be what we're seeing here. Certainly the robin got up looking very pleased with itself and flew up into the trees.
Today has been just lovely. I saw the woodpeckers again, and the warblers and talked to one of the Trust volunteers who was busy doing his annual bird survey. Apparently, apart from the warblers, the mirgrating birds have been very slow to arrive this spring and are here in far fewer numbers. Probably due to the (up till now) cold weather, but alarming!
Nothing much else about today, except that Hazel and I had a lovely sunny walk and Charlie the plumber's here once again trying to sort out our aged water pipes. Ce la vie!
Enjoy your Friday evening and have a great weekend xx
