Tree is probably Cercis siliquastrum, a Judas tree; no sign of pink flowers, though. History ; the park was a loch, then when drained the Royal Patent Gymnasium. 

Printed the urgent document and posted it, then worked through a pile of additional material for a meeting tomorrow. Overcast and cool all day, early evening walk.
