TAMARISK, aka Salt Cedar

Angus & I went a different route this morning, which is where we saw this tree in full bloom. I have never seen this plant in bloom before; & it stopped me in my tracks. The masses of pink flowers made me
(almost) swoon.

Luckily, my plant ID APP worked, which
says this hardy, deciduous shrub/tree,
with feathery leaves & showy flowers, is
native to Europe & Asia. It is drought & salt tolerant, & can be used as a screen, windbreak or as a hedge. I’ve seen
long windbreaks of this plant, near
Palm Springs.

In this case, it was planted as tree, at the edge of the sidewalk. It is another plant that is thriving after our unusually wet Winter.
