Part of the Tay Viaduct.

The Viaduct. Built 1864, 440m long… and with a walkway and is curved!

It is built of cast iron and masonry and on its route springs off the north end of one of many islands in the Tay. Moncrieffe island is known for “the Perth Working Men’s Gardening Association” allotments and the 1897 King James VI golf course; an inland island course - one of only two worldwide apparently.

It’s a great crossing, fine views and even better if a train passes when on the walkway (see extra photo).

Exiting the viaduct we walked through the Bellwood Riverside Park with its public art trail and we explored the wee Kinnoull Burial Ground (oldest stone 1720!) The adjacent Rodney Gardens were lovely this afternoon.

After crossing the river again at the Perth bridge we popped in to a couple of our favourite shops.

The sun never really broke through unfortunately.
