Second-time-around

Blackbirds

Two of my ‘regulars’. A cold wind today made the sun seem not so hot. It’s been so dry I’m concerned that there isn’t enough water for the wildlife. The blackbirds start singing at around 04.35 am, according to my wildlife camera. And one is singing now, just after 7pm. Their songs are so loud and clear, and varied. Sometimes one specific pattern is then echoed by another bird quite a distance away.

My camera also revealed a fox cub with its parents last night. I I didn’t see any cubs on the wildlife cam this time last year. This cub had almost a full tail, whereas younger cubs have shorter ones. But to get into my garden the foxes have to jump a 6ft fence, so perhaps there’s more than one cub around but it can’t jump the fence. (It’s not my fence so I can’t do anything about it.) I noticed the parents let the cub take the ‘best’ food. A fat hedgehog sat in its feeder box steadily munching while the foxes ignored him.
