Union Chain Bridge
Today we were back in England. Not very far into that 'home country' but as far as the Union Chain Bridge would take us - and then a bit further, just or fun.
Last visited on 21st September 2022, on our way back from Eyemouth, its restoration was far from complete, so with today being half-term, a Saturday and seaside weather, we thought it might be quiet enough to see if it was open.
Indeed, it is and seems to have become a visitor attraction as, besides traffic (a several cars and bikes) there was a near-constant stream of pedestrians, like ourselves, admiring the restoration and the view of the River Tweed sparkling below. We watched two skiffs row upstream, then back, a couple of paddleboards pootling close to the river bank and, in the distance three fishermen trying their luck.
As last time, we wandered down and below the bridge (extra photo) before heading off, stopping at Heatherslaw Light Railway then coffee and cake in Boes at the corn mill and home.
