Simply the Best

My blip is my homage to Tina Turner, having learned last night of her death. What a star, surviving abuse from her husband and striking out on her own with nothing. She was a fantastic show person. I had to look at google to find out when we’d gone to Portman Road, Ipswich Town’s football ground, to see her live, and it was July 1990. It seems unbelievable that we thought she was amazing for being able to strut her stuff for hours, bounding down that staircase in the photo in her stilettos at the advanced age of 50. It was the first show we attended there and the best by miles. She gave total energy and commitment to making sure her audience was having a brilliant time. (Unlike Dire Straits who seemed on lacklustre autopilot when we saw them there another time). When we were walking along the road at the end she drove by in her limo, waving and smiling to us. Tonight Linda is having a little do to have a drink and dance in her memory.

I met Katy this morning as she wanted to get into walking again and has bought a Trig Point Bagging guide. I really felt like having a relaxing day after all my walking the last couple of days but she needed someone who can mapread to accompany her. Her target was Brizzley Wood. I showed her how we could either take a longer walk through the Duke’s Hulne Park, or go via a B road to the access track for the radar station. I’m glad she decided that way as when the guard let us in he said the gate from the park was permanently locked. (The trig point is inside the high security fence where the radar station is). The RAF no longer minds the station - it’s farmed out to a private company. SERCO probably.

After ticking off that one Katy had a look in her book and found another near Glanton at Tricklington Pike. We could easily get there from the road we were on so off we set, driving along narrow lanes and through a ford. This one was near a mast so we walked steeply up to that and from there across moorland to the point. We had great views to the sea in the east and northwest to Cheviot.

After having a sandwich we drove home via the A637, by which time it had clouded over.

I’ve made a salad nicoise to take to Linda’s so I’m all set to roll. Or rock n’ roll.
