A Day Out in Devon

In the morning we had a tour of Gorst Energy, an anaerobic digestion (AD) facility located in Clyst St Mary, on the outskirts of Exeter. They process agricultural feedstocks supplied by local farmers, primarily pig manure and sustainably grown crops. Using high-quality technology, the feedstock is broken down to produce biogas and digestate:
The biogas is used to either generate and export renewable electricity to the National Grid, or upgraded and injected directly into the UK’s gas network. This green electricity and gas directly supplies local homes and businesses surrounding the  plant.
The digestate is high in nutrients and a good replacement for artificial fertilisers. 
Very interesting, with lots of tractors and slurry. We were there with the Curious Club, who take us to some very unusual places.
In the afternoon we had a walk to Topsham and visited the Museum. There was an exhibition about Dick Pym, a local fisherman who turned out to be a rather good goalkeeper, playing for Exeter City, and Bolton Wanderers, with whom he won three FA Cups in the 1920s. He also played for England , returning to Topsham and fishing after his retirement. - extra photos
