Squeaky Clean
Another sea day as we race towards Lisbon to arrive before the strike starts.
We had a special tour behind the scenes to the laundry area this afternoon, which was really something to see. Only four men work down in the bowels of the ship in a surprisingly small space, washing 1,000 sheets and towels a day, along with countless table cloths, napkins, crew uniforms, and passenger laundry.
The laundry department runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week -- endless washing, drying, pressing, ironing, and folding. I can't imagine doing this Herculean task, never seeing daylight, and working in a very warm, humid environment. Nonetheless, the gentlemen who we met this afternoon were all very cheerful.
Early this morning (at 2:30 a.m.) we got out of bed and went up on deck to witness our passage through the Strait of Gibraltar -- obviously it was very dark, but we could see the Rock! My little compact camera isn't up to the task of recording the moment clearly, so I "faffed" with the image I managed to get -- see extra.
PS: I'll try never to complain about having to do the laundry again!
