Safeguarding mothers and babies, Maharashtra

IMPACT India's Community Health Initiative works with rural communities in Maharashtra State. Fieldworkers weigh babies at regular intervals to track their progress. Our colleagues recorded 22 infant deaths in 2013, against 30 in 2012. The main challenge in the project areas is Anaemia in young mothers, which leads to the birth of undernourished and low birth weight babies.
