Impressive

A splendid walk with B, J & W this morning from Holkham Gap to Wells beach and back.

At the end of April I went along to the new Wells RNLI Lifeboat Station for a photoshoot organised by our local camera club.  As well as viewing the lifeboat we also saw the impressive SLARS machinery.  Whilst walking on Wells beach this morning we saw the SLARS unit in action heading off towards Holkham to recover the lifeboat which was out for a training session.

The SLARS (Shannon Lifeboat Launch & Recovery System),  is a giant tractor-like machine which has a launch ramp integrated within it so it can take the lifeboat out to the water's edge and launch it.  When the lifeboat returns it beaches itself and the SLARS winches it back onto its ramp and then rotates the whole platform 180 degrees so that the lifeboat is facing the correct way to launch when needed next. It's then driven back to the lifeboat station.  See previous blip to see the lifeboat:

I suspect that fellow blippers Bom and JohnRH will also feature this amazing piece of equipment that helps to save so many lives.

My extra is some of the iconic Wells beach huts in the sunshine.
