Knott Park House…built 1910

Today I went to an Open Garden in Oxshott. The photo is of a very large house ( now divided vertically into 5 houses) which was built by the first Sir Robert McAlpine in 1910. (He was born in Scotland and developed his building business there before contracts further south eg the Dorchester Hotel and the first Wembley Stadium.
It’s is an Arts and Craft House and we saw some features inside the house eg doors and ceilings etc. I was actually surprised that the only access to the garden for visitors was through the house.

Interestingly the  house has been divided into 5 and the original large garden has been divided into 5 very different sized and shaped plots..not just five strips from the house. The house is built on the top of a hillside so the garden is terraced and not the easiest to maintain. The owner has not lived there long and the garden is obviously still a work in progress, interesting as it’s not really a show garden.

I went to a garden centre on the way home and bought a few plants.
