What’s in name?

It was a beautiful day so, after a quick trip to Aldi, I spent most of the day tidying up the garden. I did so much work on it during the lockdowns that it’s really just (just?!?) a case of weeding, pruning and replacing dead plants with new, soon-to-be-dead plants. The only colour that’s not green, though, has to come from whatever I put in pots so hopefully I can get those done next weekend.

The number of different plants reminded me about a crossword puzzle I did recently, where the answers were all plants that are also names. I wonder why ‘Rose’ and ‘Fern’ are common names, but - as far as I’m aware - no-one’s ever been called ‘Burdock’ or ‘Nettle’?
