Ring for the King
I played a tennis match in the morning but was back in time to watch the preparations and the coronation service. I am not an ardent monarchist, but I think that the king has something to offer to the country. England did what it does always very well, pageantry. It really was quite a spectacle. The only blot on the day, as far as I was concerned, was the arrest of a few peaceful republican protesters under new police powers. I think this was the dangerous precedent and a serious threat to free speech. Later in the afternoon we rang both handbells and tower bells for the king. Quite a few people from the village turned up to listen and some more may come tomorrow morning for the special coronation service which will be followed by a parish meal.
