Coronation preparation

Coronation preparation under way. I am an old royalist and I have had the BBC channel on in my desktop computer's 28" screen all day. I can still remember the 1953 coronation and I am just wondering how we watched it as there was no TV in those days. I wonder if there were news reels that were shown in movie theaters before the main movie started. Does anyone recall?
