On the buses

Today the Friends of King Alfred Buses(FOKAB) were running their collection of vintage buses around Winchester, along with a few visiting heritage buses. The King Alfred bus company  operated services in and  around Winchester   from 1922 until 1973. The FOKAB running day is an annual event and incredibly well organised  and very popular. My main  blip shows a 1929 Leyland Lion which was originally in the  Hants and  Dorset  bus company fleet, although King Alfred  Buses once  had an identical bus. It has recently been beautifully  restored in Scotland, and   returned  to Hampshire, and is now painted in the King Alfred Bus livery. Today it was offering fifteen minute trips around the city centre. It was not a very comfortable ride and looked  difficult  to drive,so a short spin was long  enough! However, earlier,  we took the  red bus (see extra) to the  village of Cheriton  and back, a journey of about an hour. It is a 1950 Bristol  LL6B and had worked in the Thames Valley fleet. It is now privately owned and just visiting today. It wasn't very comfortable by today's  standards but still  fun to travel in. The blue bus (extra) a 1934 Leyland Lion LT5A was visiting  from Scotland, and was causing  quite a lot of excitement today . I photographed  it as it returned from a  round trip to Stockbridge, which would have taken  over an hour. 
We also went on trip to Hursley and back on a more modern double  decker, before inspecting a collection of stationery vintage buses, and then  heading home.
I feel we've had a good weekend's fill of transport nostalgia!
